The Age of Aquarius

Modern Myth? Some say we are already in this new celestial age, others claim we will enter it on December 21, 2012. We have all surely read or heard about this date. So I decided after reading one very interesting book, The fingerprints of the Gods, to create this painting. Instead of being inspired by past myths, I give you a future or nearly present myth.

Painted on a 10x20 museum depth canvas in acrylics. The image is painted wrapped around the edges. Our subject looks upon a billboard while the sun behind her rises in the house of Aquarius. I enjoyed the creation of this piece with it's aspects of realistic and imagined elements. A little closeup to show off some of the detail.

Smoke Screen

Within all myths are small bits of truth, that is what makes them interesting. Some myths endure and become beliefs. These can become muddied with man's imposed values.

Inspired by my belief that greed is destroying everything man has tried to achieve, even our beliefs.

This acrylic on canvas board is 11x14.

What do you think?

Annabel Lee

Inspired by the Edgar Allen Poe poem of the same name, this 18x24 Acrylic on canvas panel is my vision of the lonely words of the poem. I textured the piece with applied tissue, and painted rather heavy, for me that is. It was rather liberating to slash about the swirls of ocean and hair. Quite carried away with myself actually, there are surely several layers obscured!
I have been rather busy painting, so look for new posts coming soon.

Keystone

This is an 11x14 acrylic painting of Keystone Bridge in Salem, Ma. Painted from a photo it shows the cold rushing waters of a fall day. Trees and stone - I am always relaxed and drawn to both subjects, and really enjoyed painting this one.

Winter Fun

Yes these are actual ice skates applied to my painting surface! Another 3D peice which is now in a lovely silver frame. This icey painting also sports several snowflakes I created with foam core. At 25x35 inches it is a dramatic statement in cool tones.
